The American Legion Bowen-Holliday Post 35 Junior Baseball Program

Welcome Parents,

The 64th season of American Legion Junior Baseball (ALJB) in Traverse City has started.  The Board of ALBJ is ready to build on the success of the 2011 season, and we are glad to have your family joining us this year. All games will once again be played at the beautiful and conveniently located Grand Traverse Civic Center.

While we are pleased with the first year under our new leadership team, it was a learning experience. ALJB does have plans to improve the league in 2012, and of course, we gladly listen to your suggestions as well. We are implementing a better system for sign-up and evaluations; we will have more clinics for coaches to enable them to better teach the fundamentals; more clinics for the umpires to allow for a fair, well controlled game; and more clinics and aids for the players so that they can get more out of the game.

The objective of the American Legion Junior Baseball League is to teach your children the fundamentals of this great game of baseball, as well as sportsmanship, teamwork and camaraderie, through coaching, discipline and positive reinforcement.

The Board appreciates all the support we receive from coaches, parents and other volunteers that help so much. We hope to involve even more parents in 2012 to aid the coaches in making this a fruitful season. Many hands make for light work. If every parent takes a small task, it goes a long way. Talk to your coach about how you would enjoy serving.

Thank you again for your participation and we look forward to making 2012 the best year ever for American Legion Junior Baseball.

On behalf of the Board of Directors for American Legion Junior Baseball League,

The weeks leading up to April 14th are sign up time for this program.  It takes time to put together teams since all the work is done by volunteers.  Games begin in May 19th with the season running through the beginning of August, with awards banquet to follow.  There will be no games May 28th, July 4th, July 9th – 14th.

In years past we have had over 921 children between the ages of 5 – 15 played in The American Legion program in a year’s time.  Each team had a coach with many assistants and interested parents involved.

Please use one form per player and be sure to sign the Waiver of Liability.  Applications without parent’s signatures will not be immediately processed, resulting in a delayed placement on a team.

Copy of a birth certificate is required from players that did not play Legion baseball last year.

Adults and youths are welcome. Youth umpires, must be 15 years or older.   An application for umpires can be picked up at the American Legion or downloaded on line at www.tclegionbaseball.com Training will be provided.
